[영어표현 DAY 22] bad blood 뜻? 불화, 불협화음, 앙숙

오늘 역시 흥미로운 표현을 들고와봤어요

bad blood 라는 표현인데요. 영어를 깊게 공부하다보면

정말 자주 접하게되는 표현이에요

 

bad blood는 불화, 악감정, 미움, 원한을 뜻합니다

 

 

feelings of dislike between two people or groups

The bad blood between the two runs deep
There is a lot of bad blood between them

 

bad blood를 보이는 그대로 해석해보면 '나쁜 피'라고 해석되죠

그런데 이 해석도 꼭 틀린것 같진 않습니다

예를 들어, 수혈을 할때 좋은 피는 수혈이 되지만 나쁜 피는 수혈이 안되죠

말 그대로 혈액의 성분이 맞지 않기 때문인데요.

 

맞지 않으니 서로 융화가 될 수 없는 물리적인 성질처럼 

사람과 사람 사이도 성향이 맞지 않으면 불협화음이 생기고 나아가 불화가 생기겠죠

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

또 문학적으로도 '나쁜 피다' 라는 표현을 쓸 땐

가족 중 한 사람이 쉽게 융화되지 못하고 튀는 성격이거나

성질이 고약하고 악한 기운을 가진 사람을 이를 때 

쟨 나쁜 피를 받았어, 나쁜 피가 흘러 등등 으로 표현되기도 하잖아요

 

 

 

참 언어라는 세계가 재밌는게

'사이가 안좋다'는 표현과 '앙숙'이다 라는 표현은 무게감부터 다르잖아요

 

영어 역시 공부하다 보면 점점 무게감 있는 표현들을 배우게 되는데
